Nintendo Announces Pokemon X and Y for 3DS

Nintendo announced today that they will be releasing a new Pokémon game series for the 3DS in October of 2013, worldwide.  The announcement came this morning from Nintendto president Satoru Iwata using the Nintendo Direct website. Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will feature three starter Pokémon: Froakie, Fennekin and Chespin.

Two main things that stand out to me are that they are showing 3D gameplay in a 3D environment for the first time in a main entry in the game. The second thing is the release date is simultaneous around the world rather than in Japan and months later everywhere else.

“The Pokémon series has always offered new styles of gameplay to coincide with the new Nintendo handheld hardware. Features enabled by the Nintendo 3DS will be incorporated in the game,” said Iwata.

The information released this morning makes Pokémon X and Y one of the games I am anticipating the most this year. Some screenshots from the Pokémon X and Y website.

  • Hey Gothamghost,
This question may be a little off-topic, I remember a while ago, around 6 years maybe? Way before the Wii, back when the Gamecube came out, Nintendo announced a “Nintendo Revolution” or whatever, I remember reading it in a magazine. Did they cancel that and go straight to work on the Wii? I know I probably got the name wrong, but I remember there being an announcement of another Nintendo console coming out.
